Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets The Beloved Duo Against a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story film was released, establishing the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a glimpse into the plot but leaving viewers curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys
The preview shows the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is what Woody is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.
Certainly, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the insignia pinned to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
